With his ABC comedy "Jake in Progress" not due back on the air until January, John Stamos will spend part of his fall in the "ER."

Stamos has signed on for a two-episode guest stint on the long-running NBC series, playing a veteran of the 1991 Gulf War who works as a paramedic and is also attending medical school. His episodes are set for Nov. 10 and 17, during sweeps.

In the spring, there was scuttlebutt that Stamos would become a full-time cast member of "ER," but ABC's surprise pickup of "Jake" laid those notions to rest. The show's renewal also forced The WB to recast its midseason comedy "Modern Men," replacing "Jake" co-star Wendie Malick with Jane Seymour.

Stamos and Wells have crossed paths professionally once before, albeit not in a hugely significant way. Wells was an executive producer of the movie "Party Monster," in which Stamos had a cameo as a talk-show host.

"Jake in Progress" is scheduled to be part of ABC's midseason Monday-night lineup in January, after "Monday Night Football" wraps up its season.
